IRWIN BERKOWITZ

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Irwin Berkowitz on December 24, 2014.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Claire; and his four daughters, Gail Shapira (Allan), Charlotte Bell (Jeffrey), Michelle Apter (Brent) and Elaine Book (David); and grandchildren Leah (Rob), Zachary, Andie, Mallory, Madelaine, Adam and Seth; and brother Johnny Berkowitz (Sharon). Irwin arrived in Canada as a Holocaust survivor with only his determination to work hard to build a new life for himself. He was well known as the proprietor of Quality Fruit & Delicatessen where he worked with Claire for 25 years. His proudest accomplishment was his large family of children and grandchildren whom he loved deeply and to whom he was endlessly devoted. The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Rabson and Dr. Buenafe for their excellent care during Irwin's illness. May Irwin's memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. If desired, Irwin's memory may be honoured by a donation to Congregation Etz Chayim.
