ETTIE (ETHEL) ROBINSON

Ethel RobinsonJune 25, 1929 – November 14, 2018
Ettie Robinson passed away peacefully in Winnipeg on November 14, 2018. She lived out her final days at home surrounded by family, as was her wish.

Ettie is survived by her children Terry & Freda, Bonnie, Evan & Cindy, David & Liz, and grandchildren Kelly, Sean, Joshua, Ari, Zev, and Daniel, siblings Reisa Libling, Penny Kalef, and Marshall Peikoff. She was predeceased by her loving husband Earl W. Robinson, parents Malick and Rose (Rabinovitch) Peikoff, and sister Elsa Wall.

Ettie was born Ethel Peikoff, on June 25, 1929, the second of five children of Malick and Rose. She grew up in a very close family in Rossburn, MB. The family lived above their parents’ general store, where Ettie loved to help her father. After high school in Rossburn, Ettie graduated in 1949 with a BA from the U of M, and a Bachelor of Social Work from McGill University in 1950. She then worked as a social worker at the Family Bureau, and volunteered as a board member with Jewish Child and Family Service and later B’nai Brith Camp.

After graduation she met Earl Robinson, marrying at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue in Winnipeg, August 2, 1951. They were a strong team, raising four children, keeping a Jewish home and growing the family business (S.I.R. Sports) together.  Ettie was kind, loving and supportive of her children and grandchildren, and was extremely proud of their accomplishments.

Ettie excelled at badminton, bowling, tennis and golf, embroidery and knitting. She had a keen eye for beauty in art, fashion and home décor. She read voraciously and completed the newspaper puzzles in ink. She played Mahjong and Bridge, attended concerts and book club. Through all of these activities she had a large network of wonderful friends.

The many summers spent at Big Whiteshell Lake were formative for the children and a focus of family life. It was special that Penny, her sister and best friend, lived next door at the lake. Ettie and Earl travelled to many places around the world. Later in life they enjoyed cruises as a couple and with family. They especially loved their winter homes in Maui and later Palm Springs and spending time there with family and friends.

Ettie loved and was loved by so many. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed.
Memorial donations may be made to the ‘Earl & Ettie Robinson Fund’ at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba or to CancerCare Manitoba.
Funeral services were held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Friday, Nov. 16. Pallbearers were Evan, David, Liz, Ari and Zev Robinson and Daniel Rosenfeld.

AARONA PERLOV (née WEINBERG)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic and unexpected passing of Aarona Perlov (nee Weinberg) on September 25, 2026, at 76 years of age. Rona passed in hospital surrounded by her family, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Left to mourn her are children, son Daniel (Heather), and daughter Allison; and grandchildren Hayden, Oliver and Eden. She is also survived by her sister Judy Git, nieces Aliah and Nomi, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces like Alexandra, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Elie and Lillian Weinberg, and beloved friend Sheila Perlmutter. She will be dearly missed by her family and many, many friends.
Rona was born on May 11, 1950. She dedicated herself to building a home and a life for her children while also committing 45 years to a career in dental hygiene. She was passionate about her hobbies, like crocheting, bridge and word games, but even more so about her many friendships. In her retirement, she joined her son Daniel as a best friend and business partner in the pursuit of developing modern and accessible medical clinics. She was her daughter, Alli’s biggest fan, attending nearly every Fringe improv show she performed in. Rona loved theatre, film, summertime at Gimli beach and winters in Palm Springs. She was an incredible cook, had a great sense of humor and energy that will never be forgotten.
Rona was a devoted family matriarch. She will be missed by many, but especially by her grandkids. She would always attend her grandchildren’s activities and performances, treat them each to special time with her, and was consistently supportive in everything they did. She was the best Baba in the world.
The funeral was held on Monday, September 28th at Rosh Pina Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancercare Manitoba, Winnipeg Jewish Theatre, or a charity of your choice.

BRUCE MILTENBERG

b. October 1st, 1940, d. 9 pm August 31st, 2026 (20th Elul 5786)

Bruce Miltenberg was a true New Yorker, born and reared on the West Side of Manhattan. He came of age in the New York of the 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s, and built his life largely through his own initiative, judgment, and persistence. His mother, a Ziegfeld follies girl, supported her two boys as an actress, and insisted they learn Accounting. Bruce attended Stuyvesant High School, Hunters College, became a Licensed CPA, and opened his first tax office in the basement of Berman’s candy store on Broadway (where he’d worked since age 12). During the early ‘60s he did a stint with the U.S. Army Reserve.

Meantime, from that first basement office courtesy the Berman Brothers, Bruce established accounting practices in Flushing, Fort Washington, and at Eighty-First Street on Broadway. By the end of the ‘60s he was buying residential multifamily buildings in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx. Ultimately Bruce closed his tax practice to devote himself to real estate, with holdings eventually in New York, Boston. Philadelphia and Canada.

There was much more to Bruce than his real estate holdings. That was merely the matrix upon which he lived his philosophy of life and nurtured his family. He was an explorer in every sense. He loved ideas, conversation, and a spirited discussion. He often said: “I may not be big enough to push anyone around, but I am too big to be pushed around”. He believed fiercely in independence, courage, and resilience. He encouraged his family to take chances, see the world, stand up for themselves, and meet life’s challenges head on. Bruce was deeply proud of his Jewish heritage and was a lifelong supporter of Israel. He was also extraordinarily generous, often quietly meeting needs and supporting causes without recognition.

In the early 90s Bruce met Cynthia Cohen, of Winnipeg, who was then living in NYC. They married in 1994 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, her family’s shule. They began to summer in Winnipeg Beach. As well travelled as he was, (his curiosity took him to some of the world’s most distant places, from Bhutan to Ushuaia), it was Winnipeg Beach—and especially the treasured friends he made there—that became his favourite place in the world. Here is a quote from one of these friends: “Bruce had a way of engaging each and every person who came into his sphere of life. He knew how to reach out to uncover what was important in their lives, while finding new ways to grow himself. He made us laugh, question what’s happening around us and strive to be a better person. Throughout his humour there was an undeniable honesty that we loved and will forever miss.”

Bruce is survived by his wife Cynthia nee Cohen, their daughters Rachel and Leah, his son Andrew (Jennifer), and daughter Alissa Wade (William), his grandchildren Skylar Vertes, Isabel and Jacob Miltenberg, Ava Miltenberg.
