On Monday, August 17, 2020, at Carewest Dr Vernon Fanning Centre in Calgary, AB, our cousin Martin peacefully took his last breath.
Born in Winnipeg, Martin was the cherished only son of Eve (Moldowan of Toronto) and Louis Zimmerman. He graduated from Kelvin High School and received BA and LLB degrees from the University of Manitoba.
After graduating as a lawyer, Martin worked for CPR. He moved to Calgary in 1975 at the request of his boss, who was transferred there. A lifelong Progressive Conservative, Martin was passionate about politics, books and his three beloved rescue dogs: Snoopy, Heather and Jeremy. He enjoyed cooking steak to share with them.
Martin was a sweet, good man with a generous, kind heart. To know him was to love him. We are grateful for his presence in our lives and for the exceptional loving care he received from the dedicated staff at Carewest, where he spent his last six years.
Martin is survived by his four cousins: Manly Zimmerman (the late Jan) of Minneapolis MN, Ron Zimmerman (Audrey) of Winnipeg, Penny Yellen (the late Barney) of Winnipeg, Lesley Shore of Toronto, and their families.
Due to Covid-19, a graveside service for immediate family was held at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on August 25. Pallbearers were: Warren Zimmerman, Stephen Segal, Sam Segal, Avi Saper, Alan Feldman and Jorel Katz.
