Within Our Lifetime (WOL) a prominent, pro-Palestine activist group, is planning a mass protest during an upcoming June 22 appearance by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Cortez, a left-wing member of the U.S. Congress who is one of the most outspoken critics of Israel in American politics.
Ocasio-Cortez will headline a rally in the Bronx, New York to support the floundering reelection bid of Rep. Jamaal Bomwan (D-NY). Ocasio-Cortez hopes that her public endorsement of Bowman will help bolster the congressman’s support among the most progressive segments of the political left.
Despite Ocasio-Cortez’s longtime antagonism towards Israel, WOL said that the congresswoman has not shown sufficient support for the Palestinian cause. In particular, the organization takes umbrage with Ocasio-Cortez over her decision to support President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign amid a so-called “genocide” in Gaza.
The group called on its supporters to “flood” St. Mary’s Park during the planned rally to show their disapproval of Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez.
“Endorsing Biden is endorsing genocide,” the group wrote.
“Join us on Saturday to protest AOC’s campaign rally in The Bronx as she continues to endorse and support Genocide Joe alongside Bernie Sanders and Jamaal Bowman. Zionists + sell-out politicians are no allies to the Palestinian people and they are not welcome in our communities,” the group wrote on X/Twitter
The group pointed out that Ocasio-Cortez has helped campaign on behalf of Biden, accusing the congresswoman of providing “progressive cover” for Israel’s military operations in Gaza. WOL called into question her Palestine allyship, pinning her as a Zionist “sell-out.”
WOL came under immense fire after it organized a protest against an exhibition to honor the victims of the Oct. 7 massacre at the Nova Music Festival in southern Israel. During the event, the group chanted “resistance is justified when people are occupied!” and “Israel, go to hell!” The protest leaders led demonstrators in additional chants, denouncing the music festival targeted by Hamas as “a place where Zionists decided to rave” and comparing the condition of Palestinians in Gaza to the Holocaust.
Occasio-Cortez harshly denounced the antisemitic protest, much to the ire of many anti-Israel activists.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said on Sunday that five of its members had been killed during an attack by Islamic State militants on a checkpoint in eastern Syria’s Deir el-Zor on July 31.
The SDF was the main fighting force allied to the United States in Syria during fighting that defeated Islamic State in 2019 after the group declared a caliphate across swathes of Syria and Iraq.
The Islamic State has been trying to stage a comeback in the Middle East, the West and Asia. Deir el-Zor city was captured by Islamic State in 2014, but the Syrian army retook it in 2017.

Armed groups attacked personnel from Syria’s internal security forces in Sweida, killing one member and wounding others, and fired shells at several villages in the violence-hit southern province, state-run Ekhbariya TV reported on Sunday.
The report cited a security source as saying the armed groups had violated the ceasefire agreed in the predominantly Druze region, where factional bloodshed killed hundreds of people last month.
Violence in Sweida erupted on July 13 between tribal fighters and Druze factions. Government forces were sent to quell the fighting, but the bloodshed worsened, and Israel carried out strikes on Syrian troops in the name of the Druze.
The Druze are a minority offshoot of Islam with followers in Syria, Lebanon and Israel. Sweida province is predominantly Druze but is also home to Sunni tribes, and the communities have had long-standing tensions over land and other resources.
A US-brokered truce ended the fighting, which had raged in Sweida city and surrounding towns for nearly a week. Syria said it would investigate the clashes, setting up a committee to investigate the attacks.
The Sweida bloodshed last month was a major test for interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, after a wave of sectarian violence in March that killed hundreds of Alawite citizens in the coastal region.
