Edith grew up in Winnipeg’s north end with aunts, uncles and cousins living close by. She often reminisced about how much fun she had going back and forth to each other’s homes and maintained an ongoing close relationship with her relatives. She attended St. Johns Tech and United College, and prided herself on being an excellent student. Family and education were of the upmost importance to our mother. She was very involved in our learning and extra-curricular activities.
Mom was a principled woman, who had strong opinions and stood by her convictions. She enjoyed the challenge of a good argument. Despite this, she had a wonderful quality of being able to laugh at herself.
Once her children were older, mom worked part time for Pioneer Women-Naamat, where she found the work as well as the people very rewarding. Mom enjoyed going to the symphony, theatre, and opera. She loved playing Mah-Jong, and was an avid bowler for many years.
Mom was predeceased by Morris, her much missed husband of almost 60 years, her parents Avrum and Doba Raber, brother Sonny Raber, sister Gloria Polsky, daughter in law Shirley, as well as numerous brothers and sisters in law.
Edith is survived by her children, Maureen Gordon (Jeremy), Jack Gardner, Harriet Rosenbaum (Sid), grandchildren, Mira (Steve), Ethan (Melissa), David (girlfriend Meira), Jessica (Tim) and Sophie, and great grandchildren Sully, Ben, Aliya, Vayda and Hadley.
Many thanks to Mario and Marissa Mariano for their many years of dedication to both our parents, Aida Macalalad, who strived to maintain moms dignity and independence while at home, and to the staff at the Simkin Centre for their care.
Funeral services were held January 7th, 2019 officiated by Rabbi Anibal Mass.
We miss her Friday night dinners, her chicken soup and most of all her love.
