In memory of MORRIS FAINTUCH 1st Yahrzeit
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the 1st yahrzeit of our dearest father Morris, who passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on February 3rd, 2021 at the age of 92.
Morris was pre-deceased by his mother Chaya, father Yaakov, and beloved brothers Henry, Yosef, David, Aaron, and sister Rugia.
Morris is mourned by his devoted wife Mildred, their three loving children, Gerry (Michele), Elaine (Todd), and Renee, and their loving grandchildren Ashley (Yisroel), Stephanie (Michael), Orie and Sharee, all from Winnipeg.
A private graveside service was held at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery on February 5th, 2021.
Morris was born in Radom, Poland to his loving family. He was a survivor of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp during the Holocaust. Upon liberation, he immigrated to Israel where he later enlisted in the Palmach Battalion, assisting in the liberation and creation of the land of Israel.
In 1953, Morris moved to Canada, landing in Montreal before making his way to Winnipeg. There he met Mildred, who would later become his wife of 65 years. Morris would settle and create a home for his family, working hard running his grocery store business. While in Winnipeg, Morris never forgot his past where he dedicated his life to serving the General Monash Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for Jewish War Veterans and retelling his story of survival to many audiences, including schools, universities, and conferences. One of his most cherished accomplishments was revisiting his experience as a survivor, attending both the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and March of the Living accompanied by thousands of other Jewish youths.
With all his accomplishments and overcoming of tragedy and hardship, Morris Faintuch managed to create a beautiful flourishing family that will forever cherish his memory and remember him for the hero that he was: A survivor, a Jewish Veteran, and an amazing father, Zaida, and Uncle. His humor, love and dedication to his family will always be engrained in our thoughts. His memory will always be a blessing to everyone he touched.

ESTELLE (TZIVIE) MEYERS
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Estelle (Tzivie) Meyers, who passed away on July 10, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born on October 26, 1941, in Winnipeg, Canada, Tzivie lived a life defined by love, strength, and devotion to her family and community.
Tzivie dedicated her life to education, beginning at an early age at Herzlia Academy and continuing throughout her career in early childhood education within the public school system. In her later years, she found great joy in teaching adults. Her generosity and commitment to learning touched the lives of many over several decades. She was widely respected for her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence. She also found joy in music, gardening, and volunteer work, especially with the Winnipeg Humane Society.
Tzivie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose love and guidance will remain a lasting legacy to all those she leaves behind.
Tzivie passed away on what would have been her 66th wedding anniversary with her beloved husband, Ron Meyers. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Jeffrey (Lori), Brian (Fatuma), and Adrienne (Anibal); her grandchildren, Jeremy, Ethan, Amira (Ziyad), Halima, Sara, and Ronen; her great-granddaughter, Bushra; and her siblings, Harvey (Pat) and Karin. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron.
Her legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services were held on July 13, 2026, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek and were officiated by her dear friend and clergy member, Cantor Leslie Emery. The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Pat Harris and the team at Palliative Care Manitoba for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Magen David Adom, or Palliative Care Manitoba – causes that were close to her heart.
Though she is no longer with us, her love, wisdom, and spirit will remain with all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

SHELDON BERNEY
October 6, 1936 – July 28, 2026
Sheldon Berney has died peacefully at his home in Palm Beach at the age of 89, with his wife, Florence Metzger-Berney, by his side, leaving behind a legacy of family and friends, hard work, and philanthropy.
Born to Ada (Loban) (z”l) and Martin Berney (z”l) Sheldon lived an extraordinary life in Winnipeg before retiring to Florida.
Sheldon is predeceased by his first wife, Carole Berney (z”l). He is survived by his wife, Florence Metzger-Berney; his daughters, Dawn and Nancy Berney (Julius Erdstein); his seven grandchildren, Martina Erdstein (Simon Garfinkel), Molly Erdstein, Eli Erdstein, Calvin Erdstein, Tanya Geggie, Simone Geggie, and Cleo Geggie (and their father, Christopher Geggie); and his siblings, Cynthia Wine (Philip Slayton), Naomi Horodezky (Sandy Horodezky), and Carl Berney (Gaynor Berney).
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 5th 10:00 am at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery (235 Armstrong Ave), reception to follow: Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Shiva will be held at the Fort Garry Hotel – Thursday (10:00 am -12:00 pm and 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm) and Friday (10:00 am -12:00pm).

ARTHUR ARKIN
Arthur Arkin, born May 22, 1927, died June 24, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife of 77 years Evelyn and their children, Gary Arkin (Diane), Kathi Spencer, Nancy Arkin, adored grandchildren, Ben Arkin (Adrienne Anderson), Aaron Sodomsky (Kirsten Marquardson), Andrew Spencer–Malhotra (Pranika), Roxanne Arkin (Colin Zinck) and cherished great- grandchildren, Asher, Olivia, Hank, Molly and Lylah.
Arthur received his BA from the University of Manitoba. After working for the family business and a string of his own businesses, he found his niche at age 53 when he established Maxim Software Systems which produced the highly successful dental management system, Maxident. He retired at the age of 90 but never stopped being curious.
It was love at first sight when Dad met Mom and he never stopped loving or adoring her – or depending on her. He believed that his life truly began only when they met and married and he fought valiantly to stay with Mom for as long as possible. He was with her until the very end.
We would like to thank Alvin, Baby, Norma and Jane for their outstanding care as well as Dr. Armstrong and the nurses and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital Dialysis Unit.
