FREDA BRASS

Freda BrassIt is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Freda Brass in the presence of her loving family on January 3, 2019.

Her precious husband, Issie, predeceased Freda in March, 2016. They were married for 66 years and shared an inspirational relationship of love, trust and mutual respect. They were partners in their family business, Brass’ Grocery, and partners in life.
Freda is survived by her loving and devoted children, Hannah and Alan (Marion Silver). She never felt more complete than with the arrival of her three grandchildren, Lawrence, Rafi (Lee Reichman), and Shira (David Plotkin) who adored their Babba. The grandchildren cherished their time with her, which was filled with laughter, love and admiration.
Freda was devoted to her late parents, Lazar and Bessie Garber. She was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Garber (Marge) and sister, Esther Calof (Roy). Mom enjoyed a warm relationship with the extended Brass Family. She is survived by Esther Gotfried (the late Bernie) and Norma Berlin (Don). She was predeceased by Morris, Abe and Rose Brass. Freda will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. She also formed a close bond with Augie Braz, our dear friend who became family.
Freda’s wit, intelligence, kindness and charm carried throughout her entire life. She nurtured and supported those around her. Her many volunteer activities, both in the Jewish and broader communities, set a wonderful example. Upon retiring, Freda achieved her lifelong dream of earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992 from the University of Winnipeg.
We express our gratitude to Mom’s nurses and homecare workers for their wonderful care. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. D. M. Miller.
Freda was a remarkable person and will be deeply missed. The funeral was held on January 6, 2019. Donations in her memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
