It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Kahanovitch in Winnipeg, MB on Sunday, April 9th, 2023.
Susan will be remembered by her loving husband of 47 years Philip, and her dear son Joshua; brothers Michael and Neil; niece and nephews, Deborah, Aaron and Jonathan; brother-in-law David, sister-in-law Kes and son-in-law Christopher. Susan is predeceased by her parents Ettie and Ruben Cohen, and in-laws Gerry and Risa.
Susan was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She spent time with her parents and siblings helping run the family’s many restaurants, and enjoying summers at Winnipeg Beach. She was also very close with numerous cousins while growing up, with many photos of them together.
Susan will be remembered for her career as a teacher in Altona and with the Seven Oaks School Division, serving as PTA Treasurer for the Grey Academy, and resource teacher for Talmud Torah School. For over 20 years Susan was an avid reader with her regular book club, and enjoyed playing games with her Scrabble group. Susan also had a deep love of dogs, owning many beautiful terriers over the years.
Susan adored traveling, with cruises to the Southern Caribbean, Alaska and the Panama Canal, and she loved to collect miniatures on her many travels with Philip. Susan and Philip celebrated their honeymoon while traveling to England, France and Italy. Before discovering her love of cruise ships, an annual family road trip allowed her to explore North America.
Susan enjoyed cooking, and would often prepare meals fit for an army at every gathering. She would eagerly host holidays, birthdays, and other special events in her home. Second helpings were mandatory, and leftovers sent home regularly.
Following a service, Susan was interred at Rosh Pina Cemetery. If loved ones desire, a memorial donation can be made to a charity of their choice.
