SYBIL ROSENBERG

March 6, 1922 to January 19, 2015 Sybil Rosenberg left us on January 19, 2015, just short of her 93rd birthday, having lived a long and meaningful life.

Cherished wife of the late Asher Rosenberg (Z”L), Mum to Lionel (Esther) Rosenberg and Avril Kettner, Bobbie to Ryan (Nava), Michael (Z”L) and Arlee Rosenberg, and Ashlyn and Devon Kettner, Bubba Bubba to Eliana and Asher Rosenberg. Born in Liverpool to Edie and Abraham (Z”L), Sybil was the youngest of 6 Yanikoff siblings, predeceased by Olga (Albert), Hymie, Sheila (Joe), and Betty (Z”L) and survived by sister and best friend Lena (Cecil Z”L).  She immigrated to Canada with Asher, eldest of 6 Rosenberg siblings, Abe (Z”L), Benny (Z”L), Doreen (Harold) (Z”L), Sadie (Nussy) (Z”L), Motty (Z”L) (Sybil). She was a “proper” Auntie and dear friend to more than could be named.

Together, Sybil and Asher settled in Winnipeg in 1948, and quickly established a British Yiddish community, and remained loyal to and proud of Winnipeg for the rest of their lives.

As much as Sybil’s life was one of legendary chicken soup, mah-jong, Friday hairdos, a Camaro convertible, avid reading, and winning bowling tournaments, it was more richly enhanced by deep personal relationships with those fortunate to know her.  She was admired, current and beautiful in all respects. She was a strong and confident woman who was true to herself. She took pleasure in meeting the needs of those she loved. She stood up to life’s greatest challenges and treated them as opportunities.  Sybil inspired and awed her loving family and friends with her warmth, indelible wisdom and compassionate sensibility.

Sybil’s funeral was held at the Etz Chayim Synagogue with interment at the Rosh Pina Cemetery, on January 21st.

Please consider making a donation to the Michael Rosenberg Memorial Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba in Sybil’s blessed memory.
