Born in Lodz, Poland, the 3rd youngest of 10, Renee at 12 years old and her brother Max (deceased) were the only surviving members of their family who perished in the Holocaust. Renee was the epitome of a Yiddisha Mama, with a cool modernity. She had a profound effect of happiness on others while in her presence - a gentle warrior, who managed each hurdle in life with grace and positivity. Her inner beauty radiated to the surface with a Regalness until her very last breath.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Travis, at the Simkin Centre, at the age of 91. She passed away peacefully, with family at her side.
After years of dementia and the struggles of memory loss, Esther passed away in her sleep at 1:15 a.m. at the Simkin Centre.
Esther was predeceased by her husband Jack, sister Reva, and parents Rose and Samuel Friver. She will forever be remembered by her children, Karen (David), Janet (Arnold) and Sandy. Her four grand-children, Jona, Jordan, Brynne and Gavin.
It is with profound sadness that the family of Leo Shearer announces his passing, at the Simkin Centre on November 1, 2019 . Leo lived a long and full life, achieving great success while overcoming many challenges. Words do not do justice to the man Leo was and what he meant to many people. He was larger than life and a true force of nature.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Litvack on October 13, 2019. After a long illness, he passed peacefully with with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Rochelle, his sons David and Daniel (Goldie) and grandchildren Eden and Ryan. The funeral was held on October 16, 2019 at Congregation Etz Chayim.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Goulding on Wednesday, October 9. She is survived by her son David in Vancouver, daughter in law Beverlee Bell, grandchildren Reagan, Kimberley & Sean, two great grandchildren Aiden & Wylder, their mother Sonja & loving nieces, Maxine Cristall and Sandra Novikoff, as well as numerous other family members. She was predeceased by son Morton and husband Joe. Although she passed peacefully in her sleep, Rose lived her life vibrantly and to the fullest but always with a view not to intrude in the lives of others.
Tova Yurman (nee Meiselman) passed away at Simkin Centre on September 24, 2019, after suffering from dementia for many years. Her husband, Sam (Shlomo) Yurman visited her daily until his death and her son, Ron was by her side day after day. She is survived by her son, Ron Yurman (Anita Wortzman), granddaughters, Lexie and Haley Yurman, sister-in-law, Hedva Yurman and her many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews in Canada and Israel.
Max passed away on September 6, 2019 at the age of 93 in Toronto, Ontario. Max grew up with his family in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Eventually, he moved to Winnipeg to become a pharmacist, a career which spanned over 50 years.
JACK JOSEPH COHEN, beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2019. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sandra (and her husband Bob) and Cayla; his grandchildren Melissa and Sara; his nieces Claire Cohen-Bruce, Carolyn Cohen, Carol Henriquez, Marsha Paul, and Jocelynn Engle; and his nephews Sidney Cohen and Daniel Cohen.
Carole is survived by her son Joshua Davis, and her loving husband of 26 years Thomas Resnick. She is also survived by Yetta, Pauly, Ann, Geri, Mera, Beverley, and Mark - just some of the aunts, cousins and nephews on her side of the family. Carole is also survived by her sister-in-law Judy, nieces Kim, Alissa, nephew David, and several grand-nieces and nephews on Tom’s side of the family, with whom she was also close.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Sophie Shinewald, nee Aaron on August 27, 2019 at the age of 106 years old. Sophie passed away at the Grace Hospital, from complications after breaking her hip a few days earlier.
