As we reported in our June 24 issue, the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba has announced that it will be giving a total of $600,000 in emergency funding to local Jewish organizations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, of which $400,000 has now been given.
Following are the 11 organizations that received funding under phase 2 of the Foundation’s emergency funding:
B’nai Brith Jewish Community Camp
Camp Massad Manitoba
Congregation Etz Chayim
Gray Academy of Jewish Education
Winnipeg Jewish Theatre
Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre
Rady Jewish Community Centre
Chai Folk Arts Council
Temple Shalom Manitoba
Saul & Claribel Simkin Centre
Chabad-Lubavitch of Winnipeg
We note, however, that during the Jewish Foundation’s AGM, which was held June 17 via Zoom, Foundation President Richard Yaffe said that “14” organizations were to receive funding in phase 2 of the Foundation’s emergency funding for organizations.
We are now informed that, while 14 organizations did apply for funding under phase 2, only 11 were approved for funding.
We have since learned that two of the organizations which had applied for funding but were turned down were the Adas Yeshurun Herzlia Congregation and Chavurat Tefilah Synagogue.
