Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival ready to hit the screen for another year

The 2023 Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival is set to take place May 10 – June 3.

Once again, the Rady JCC is grateful for the ongoing support of The Asper Foundation and the Babs Asper Centre for Cultural Arts in making this year’s version one you do not want to miss.

Film lovers will experience award-winning films, visiting directors, Canadian premieres, special events, a drive-in movie night and so much more during the event.

This year, in honour of the 75th anniversary of the State of Israel, there will be a particular focus on contemporary films from that country.

The festival is also featuring what has emerged as one of the best films of the year so far. The Yiddish-language SHTLL, by the young French film maker Ady Walter is being touted by critics as a masterpiece. Walter and the Jean-Charles Lévy, the producer of the film, will be In Winnipeg to present it and participate in a post-film discussion.

Israeli movie director Ma’ayan Rypp, whose family is from Winnipeg, is coming from Tel Aviv to present her film The Last Widow which was developed at the Cannes Film Festival residency program.

“We are thrilled with this year’s line up,” said Jewish Film Festival Producer Karen Burshtein. “There truly was an embarrassment of riches to choose from this year. And we think we have curated a roster of great films with something for everyone.”

Films will be shown in-person at the Berney Theatre – 123 Doncaster Street and by virtual format for enjoyment in one’s home.
